Inspired by the luxurious hot chocolates served in Parisian cafés, this Paris Hot Chocolate recipe is the definition of cozy indulgence. I added this to my website because it’s the ultimate winter drink — deeply chocolatey, silky smooth, and comforting with every sip. Known in France as “Chocolat Chaud,” this version is thicker and more intense than the American counterpart, almost like drinking melted chocolate ganache. Whether you’re curling up with a book or hosting a holiday brunch, this drink brings café elegance to your home.

Heat the Milk and Cream
-
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine ¾ cup milk and 1 cup cream.
-
Warm it gently until it begins to steam, but do not let it boil.
Add Sweetness and Espresso
-
Whisk in 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and ½ teaspoon espresso powder until fully dissolved.
Add the Chocolate
-
Lower the heat and add 8 oz chopped dark chocolate (or chocolate chips).
-
Stir constantly with a whisk or silicone spatula as the chocolate melts completely.
Stir Until Velvety
-
Continue stirring gently over low heat for 3–5 minutes until the mixture is silky, glossy, and thickened slightly.
-
Again, do not let it boil, as boiling can cause the chocolate to seize or separate.
Serve Hot
-
Pour into your favorite mugs.
-
Optionally, top with a light dusting of cocoa powder, shaved chocolate, or whipped cream.
